Diamond Prices to Increase this Year
De Beers, the biggest diamond producer in the world that sells their diamonds on an invitation-only basis, is forecasting an increase in diamond prices in 2015. The last quarter of 2014 saw a 6.9% decrease in rough diamond prices, which De Beers says was the biggest decline in diamond prices in over two years. The 2014 holiday season was a lot “softer” in the diamond industry than expected.
However, the company says that they expect to see a 3 to 4 percent increase in the demand for diamonds in 2015, which is good news for jewelers all around. They say that their three biggest industries, which includes the U.S., China, and India, are standing in what they call a “robust position”.
Despite the decline in diamond sales in 2014, De Beers said that they saw amazing sales and profits. They boasted selling 32.6 million carats throughout the year, which earned them a magnificent $1.4 billion in operating profit.
