The Latest in Jewelry Heists
Once in a while, we talk about the latest jewelry robberies and heists. This one is a heist that cannot be ignored.
The London Metropolitain Police are on the hunt for a gang who pulled off what is being called England’s biggest jewelry heist ever. The target, Hatton Garden Safety Deposit Ltd. boasts that they are “one of London’s most successful and leading safe deposit companies”. And that they “provide our clients a secure and cost-effective solution to store and protect important and irreplaceable personal belongings.”
The gang of theives used heavy duty cutting equipment to break into the vault and claiming the contents of between 60 and 70 safety deposit boxes at the Hatton Garden Safety Deposit Ltd. The theives created a tunnel in a wall of the building that led to the elevator shaft, which they then repelled down to gain access to the vault.
While the police are remaining quiet about the details of the heist, news reports are estimating that around 200 million tons pounds, which adds up to nearly $300 million, was stolen overall. That makes all other robberies that have occured up to date in Britain child’s play in comparison.
