Gemstone Highlight –
Hopefully appropriate for the 4th of July, the gemstone highlight this month is the July birthstone, the Ruby. It not only fills in the red for the red, white and blue, it is also an amazing gemstone. Here, you can see a ruby paired with blue topaz, a gorgeous red, white (silver) and blue ring for the occasion!
Rubies represent wisdom, love and health. Wearing a ruby is supposed to bestow good fortune. The better quality and color of the ruby, the more valuable it is, and rubies are considered quite valuable in the jewelry industry.
It is extremely rare, however, to find a ruby that is of the highest quality, yet it is almost as durable as a diamond, which makes it a great stone for everyday wear. Celebrities tend to love rubies as signature gemstones for their jewelry pieces.
Rubies that are medium or a dark vivid, almost purplish red are the ones that people desire the most. If a ruby is light red or has too much orange or purple in it, it might be called a sapphire, rather than ruby.
