Gemstone Highlight – Ametrine
Ametrine is a bit of a newer term that derives from Amethyst and Citrine, as it is a mixture of the two gemstones. They are both essentially different color of quartz. The beautiful color combination when the two gemstones are combined, however, have peaked interest in this new gemstone.
This stone hails from the Anahi Mine in Bolivia, and will yield a different hue pattern in every gem. Most of the jewelry you will find with an ametrine gemstone in it will be cut with half of the stone purplish or pinkish and the other half yellowish or orangish. There are forms of the gemstone coloring with a different mixture of the two gems, or more of a blend of the colors, as well, but they are more rare.
Ametrine can also be produced in the lab, but because there isn’t yet a demand for this colorful gemstone, lab production is not necessary.
Why do you think? The colors are pretty! Would you buy an ametrine ring?
