World’s Largest Colorless Synthetic Diamond Weighing in at 10.02 Carats
We’ve talked about how the International Gemological Institute Hong Kong has been working on creating man-made, lab-grown diamonds, but little did we expect for them to grow the world’s largest diamond in only 300 hours!
New Diamond Technology revealed the stone at the recent JCK Las Vegas event, in which they had a booth. Only two months ago, the largest lab-grown diamonds, which were also created by New Diamond Technology, were certified by IGI Hong Kong – a 5-carat radiant-cut brilliant and 4-carat-cushion-cut brilliant diamond.
But, New Diamond Technology has beat their own record! The Type IIa diamond that the International Gemological Institute Hong Kong has certified the square emerald cut diamond as weighing in at 10.02 carats! The Institute believes that this marks the creation of the world’s largest colorless synthetic diamond to date.
Isn’t is amazingly crystal clear? If only we could look at it in person!
The lab-made diamond was cut from a piece of rough that was already record-breaking, weighing in at 32.26 carats. The 10.02 carat stone that came out (above) was lab grown by Saint Petersburg, Russia-based New Diamond Technology and classified with VS1 clarity, E color, and a very good to excellent finish. And, yes it didn’t even take a total of 300 hours to create it!
Marc Brauner, the co-CEO of IGI says that this stone is unique in all aspects, including size, color, and brilliance. In a company statement, Brauner stated that “the science and technology behind the processes synthesizing this stone are significantly more advanced than other man-made diamonds currently on the market.”
